Following on from the success of our 50th anniversary tournament held last July, we are pleased to announce the staging of our second summer grassroots tournament.

The tournament will take place over Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th August, with this year's host venue being Ercall Wood Academy in Wellington.

The tournament is open to boys, girls and mixed teams (though please note, all teams compete against each other; there are no individual boys, girls and mixed competitions).

Age groups invited to enter are as follows, with age groups based on those for the upcoming 2023/24 season:

    • Under 15 (9 v 9)
  • Sunday 13th August
    • Under 8 (5 v 5)

    • Under 14 (9 v 9)

Confirmation of provisional entry, along with details of how to pay the £40 entry fee, will be emailed to teams as soon as an application is processed. Places in the tournament will be confirmed as soon as payment is made via bank transfer.

Complete, detailed tournament rules, registration times and other “on-the-day” information to share with your players and parents will be sent out no later than two weeks prior to the tournament. However, a summary of the rules is included below along with venue information, tournament format and conditions of entry.

Note: Timings are approximate and show kick-off time of the first group matches to estimated completion of the final

Venue

Ercall Wood Academy, Golf Links Lane, Wellington, Telford, TF1 2DT

There will be a £2 charge per car to park on site. Alternate parking options will be included with the tournament pack distributed to team managers nearer the time.

There will be a range of food and drink stalls on site and a raffle. Qualified first aid will be in place on both days.

Tournament Rules and Format

  • Age groups will be based upon the 2023/24 season with teams allocated to the relevant competition based on the age group submitted on the entry form.
  • Each age group allows entries from boys, girls and mixed teams.
  • The Under 8 to Under 14 age group competitions will follow the same format (assuming full entry numbers):
    • Group stage consisting of two groups of five teams (all teams guaranteed a minimum of four games if full entry numbers reached)
    • Quarter finals for top four in each group
    • Semi finals
    • Final
  • The Under 15 age group competition will have the following (assuming full entry numbers):
    • Group stage consisting of one group of five teams (all teams guaranteed a minimum of four games if full entry numbers reached)
    • Semi finals for top four in the group
    • Final
  • Durations for group and knockout games will be:
    • Under 8 – 10 minutes straight through
    • Under 9 – 10 minutes straight through
    • Under 10 – 10 minutes straight through
    • Under 11 – 12 minutes straight through
    • Under 12 – 12 minutes straight through
    • Under 13 – 12 minutes straight through
    • Under 14 – 12 minutes straight through
    • Under 15 – 15 minutes straight through
  • Due to time constraints, knockout games that end in a draw will be settled via penalty shootout with no extra time played.
  • Maximum squad sizes are as follows:
    • Under 8 – 10 (5 v 5)
    • Under 9 – 12 (7 v 7)
    • Under 10 – 12 (7 v 7)
    • Under 11 – 14 (9 v 9)
    • Under 12 – 14 (9 v 9)
    • Under 13 – 14 (9 v 9)
    • Under 14 – 14 (9 v 9)
    • Under 15 – 14 (9 v 9)
  • The organisers reserve the right to alter the format prior to the start of each competition to accommodate entry numbers, withdrawals, logistical issues etc. All teams will be notified as soon as is possible if this is the case.
  • Trophies and medals will be awarded as follows:
    • Each winning team will receive a trophy with a medal for each member of their playing squad.
    • Each runner-up will receive a medal for each member of their playing squad.

Conditions of Entry

  • The tournament is affiliated with and sanctioned by the Shropshire FA. All teams who enter must be affiliated with their relevant county FA for the 2023/24 season (the window for affiliation opens in May). For Shropshire based teams requiring more information regarding affiliation please contact Shropshire FA using the email address info@shropshirefa.com
  • As this is a grassroots tournament, Academy teams or teams from a School of Excellence cannot enter and the organisers reserve the right to refuse entry applications.
  • Spaces cannot be reserved. Applications will be accepted strictly in the order which they are received. This page will be updated with the number of spaces remaining in each age group.
  • Your entry will only be confirmed once payment of the £40 entry fee is received. Payment details will be sent to both the Club Contact and Manager email addresses submitted on the entry form.
  • If applications to enter are greater than the number of places in the relevant competition, a waiting list place will be offered. Should any team subsequently fail to pay their entry fee or withdraw from the competition places will be offered to the waiting list in the order in which applications were received.

Entry Fees

  • The fee for entry into the tournament is £40 payable via bank transfer. Bank details will be provided once an application form has been received and processed.
  • If payment has been made but your application is unsuccessful you will be given a full refund.
  • If, for any reason, the tournament does not go ahead you will be given a full refund.
  • Entry fees will not be refunded if:
    • You are accepted into the tournament but subsequently withdraw from the competition after 12th July 2023
    • You are accepted into the tournament but are not affiliated with either the Shropshire FA or your county's FA for the season 2023/24 so are unable to participate (see above for more information)
