Code of Conduct for Spectators in Junior Football

The football association has decided to change the way youngers are introduced to, and then coached in the art of football. This association wishes to use this change as an opportunity to reverse the trend of off field misconduct prevalent in junior football, those mainly responsible being club officials and parents of children taking part.

A set of guiding principled establishing a benchmark for acceptable conduct:

  • Encourage children to play for fun: The object is not to entertain adults
  • Learn the laws of the game: To be an informed spectator, you will understand better what you are looking at and you will appreciate the difficulties in interpretation. Encourage children to play by the laws of the game
  • Set a good example: Your conduct and attitude will be copied by young players
  • Appreciate good football: Applaud ALL good pay by both teams
  • Never direct abuse: Always demonstrate courtesy and good humour, do not use profane language, harass, or direct dissent at match officials or coaches. They are all working for your children’s enjoyment and benefit, show them respect at all times.
  • Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during the game: Such action in ABSURD at best. Encourage by all means using positive language.
  • Condemn violence: In all circumstances
  • Respect your opponents: Without them, there would be no game
  • Never take the law into your own hands: Let Club Officials sort out any problems that may arise
  • Never be drawn into disputes: Do not get into arguments with other spectators, players or officials

Remember, FA rule 25 makes every club responsible for the conduct of its players, officials, spectators, and followers, before during and after each game.

Failure to do so will result with individuals being charged by the County FA with misconduct and the club for failing to control the parties reported.

This code of conduct is produced by order of Shropshire Football Association.

ANYONE FOUND DISREGARDING THIS CODE OF CONDUCT WILL BE ASKED TO SUBMIT REASONS IN WRITING AND WILL BE DEALT WITH BY THE AJFC COMMITTEE.

FA Matchday App & FAN (FA Number)
For player and team administration, the club makes use of the FA's Matchday app. The app allows our managers to look after the logistical side of running the team and also displays information to parents and players around upcoming fixtures and other team information, such as training sessions, friendlies, squad lists etc.

To use the app and also to allow the club to link parents to players within the wider Whole Game system, an FA Number (FAN) is required.

A FAN is a unique identification number for individuals (managers, players, parents, supporters) who have registered with one or more of the FA's administration systems, websites and apps. A FAN is issued whenever you are involved in football. This could be through completing an FA course, being involved with a club as coach, parent or player or even purchasing England tickets, so it is possible you already have a FAN.

As the parent/guardian of the player registering, you will need to supply your FAN and date of birth as part of the player registration process to allow us to link you to your child within the FA’s systems.

For more information on the Matchday app, please visit the England Football website by following this link; https://www.englandfootball.com/explore/helpful-apps-and-websites/matchday

Help on how to download and set up the Matchday app can be found here; https://grassrootstechnology.thefa.com/support/solutions/48000396671

Please note, you will only need to read articles that are for players or parents and we do not, as yet, manage payments via the app.

For more information on FAN, please see the FA’s website here; https://help.thefa.com/support/solutions/articles/7000028493-what-is-a-fan-
